MBC Missions Overview

MBC strives in all missions endeavors to proclaim God, to "reach and teach", and to fulfill God's commands, all in the name of Jesus.

Barbeque

A barbeque is held annually in February. Over 100 volunteers work on this event, which is a major fundraiser with all money raised for projects outside of MBC.  Additionally, the barbeque is a fellowship opportunity, encouraging church and community members to gather in the fellowship hall for a meal and to view brochures or photo displays of current mission projects.  Take out orders are available, including those filled at the drive-through.  We encourage companies and organizations to order large quantities, which can be delivered for convenience. Contact Sheila Hunley if you want to place large orders or volunteer.

Back to School Book Bag Ministry

MBC partners annually with our Children's Place and Union Baptist Church to provide book bags and school supplies to inner-city children who do not have the abundance of material and other blessings that many of us take for granted. We collect new book bags, lined paper, crayons and markers, scissors, glue sticks, pencils, rulers, notebooks, locks for lockers, and other school supplies. We also gather clothing, shoes and books for these children. We hope to provide and distribute over 100 filled book bags this year to children from kindergarten through high school in an event at Union Baptist Church in Raleigh. In addition, we hope to provide several filled bags to area schools for children in need there as well.

Church Partnership

MBC partners with Fairlawn Baptist Church in Dunbar, West Virginia. MBC offers financial and "sweat" resources to Fairlawn's ongoing project to remodel and convert an adjacent former school building into church and educational space. Fairlawn plans to use the remodeled facility to offer community Senior Adult and Preschool/Children's ministries to their Appalachian community.

Cuban Mission

Macedonia has developed a relationship with Ebenezer Baptist Church in Yaguajay, Cuba. For the past several years we have had one or two mission trips each year taking over 500 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications on each trip. In Cuba, the people are very friendly, clean, educated, and articulate, but they have very few material things, including medicine and adequate housing. Our goal here at Macedonia Baptist is to assist Ebenezer Baptist with meeting some of the physical needs of the people of the small village of Yaguajay.

Ebenezer Baptist Church was started in 1960 and has survived through the Communist regime of Fidel Castro, in spite of the official position banning religion. In recent years, Castro has reconsidered this position, and now claims to be a Catholic himself.

March 2009 will mark the ten year point in our relationship with Ebenezer Baptisth Church in Yaguajay, Cuba. For more information about our relationship, please click here.

Our desire is to demonstrate the Love of Jesus Christ and the provision of God for his people in Yaguajay. Contributions are always welcome to help with this Mission. Please contact our church office at 919-851-3216 if you would like to participate or contact Mark Wegman for more information.

Honduras Mission Trip

MBC has entered its third year of ministry in the town of Tocoa, Honduras. Our ministry there has been two-fold: working with Salem Baptist Church (Iglesia Bautista Salem) where several teams have helped in the construction of the church, and at Gates of Hope, which ministers both to young mothers who are victims of abuse, as well young children. Work at Gates of Hope includes showing the JESUS film, a mobile dental clinic in 2007, teaching girls basic sewing methods and construction and more. If you would be interested in going on a trip to Honduras, please contact Paul Taulman.

A group from MBC made a trip to Honduras in 2007. You can hear the presentation and see the slides here.

Mission Youth Trips

Mission trips offer an opportunity for the youth of MBC to do service (construction, backyard Bible school, clown or sports ministry and more) in a setting with other youth from across the USA.  A main goal of mission trips is to give youth a renewed sense of excitement about the Christian faith to take back to their own local church and to foster a commitment of service in the community.  There is a component of spiritual development present in mission trip worship experiences and prayer. For many of our youth, mission trips are life-changing. For more information, contact Jon Hobgood, minister to students.

Operation Inasmuch

"...Truly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40

Operation Inasmuch mobilizes believers in a hands-on local church missions blitz in their community. It offers a proven model of local ministry for any size congregation in any location. It began at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, Fayetteville, NC, in 1995 and has grown to be a popular, interdenominational event.

Macedonia Baptist Church began participating in Operation Inasmuch in 2005. We look forward to the rewards of participating in this creative mission venture:

  • Devoting a day to helping people at their points of need
  • Reaching out to others with Christian love and understanding
  • Fostering interracial harmony through working together
  • A surge in spiritual growth
  • Acknowledging that service is for a lifetime, just as worship and stewardship are for a lifetime
  • A community blitz by Christians on mission
  • Acknowledging the mission field in one’s own back yard
  • Accepting the Great Commission
  • Strengthening the Great Commission
  • Discovering how one’s spiritual gifts can be used in mission work

"Shoe Box Ministry" Project

Macedonia Baptist Church participates in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse, the Christian ministry led by Franklin Graham. In October, we fill shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, and other small gifts. The boxes are then sent to children in troubled countries such as Afghanistan or El Salvador.

Vacation Bible School

Every year, MBC reaches out to children and adults in the community by offering Vacation Bible School (VBS). Additionally, offerings of money and/or food are collected for Missions. Typically, over 200 children and adults are registered, and more than 100 volunteers work as teachers, floaters, craft and food workers.

Women on Mission

Women on Mission (WOM) meets monthly for a variety of mission-related speakers, projects, worship, prayer and discussion. A committed group of members work throughout the year to plan and implement various mission events. The WOM Meal Team Ministry provides meals to families during their time of loss, sickness, surgery, birth, etc., and also coordinates baby showers.   WOM are involved in a variety of mission projects, such as partnering with the Raleigh Baptist Association in a monthlong drive to collect baby items for families in need in econonically depressed areas of West Virginia.   WOM sponsors "Eggs for Annie", an Annie Armstrong Easter Offering event to collect funds for the SBC spring mission, with emphasis for North American missions.

Yard Sale

The annual MBC yard sale for missions will be Sat. September 17, 2005 with a raindate of September 24. This year should be the biggest and best yard sale we have had! Two forty foot containers will be on-site for collection of yard sale items such as toys, household items, tools, sporting goods, electronics, clothing, books, shoes and purses and more!

Why do we do this big event? We strive to put our faith into action in very practical ways:

  1. We collect used items to be good stewards of the many things that God has provided.
  2. We serve families in need who shop for necessities at very good prices.
  3. We raise funds to support local, regional, national and international missions.
With our one day event we combine stewardship, service and support of missionaries and mission projects. Our goal this year is a big jump from last year. We hope to raise $10,000 for missions; last year over $6000 was raised.

Support is needed from the MBC family. Think of us when you clean out your attics and garages. Tell your neighbors and friends that it is yard sale time again. We will provide statements for tax purposes. Think about how you can support missions by speaking today to Bob Mott, Paul Wilder, Paul Taulman or Jean Sidlo. We depend on gracious assistance from many people to make this event successful. Help is needed on Friday, September 16 with set up, as well as on Saturday, September 17 for the sale itself. Call the church office with your questions or requests for pick up of large items. The containers will be open on Wed. evenings and keys to the containers will be available anytime the church is open now through the sale date.

New members are welcome and encouraged to fellowship, work hard and have some fun working with a great team. You can make a difference. We are counting on your help. And, many thanks to all who have participated in the past; each individual makes this a church success.
