The JOY – Lillie Atkins Sunday School Class

The JOY- Lillie Atkins Sunday School Class is named after the former JOY Class and the Lillie Atkins Class.  The class combined in the late 1990's.

The JOY Class named was derived from Jesus, Others and Yourselves.

The Lillie Atkin Class was named in honor of the late Miss Lillie Atkins (1899-1968) who provided land and funds for the present church building in the mid and late 1950's.   Miss Lillie was a single woman who was a teacher at the Swift Creek Elementary School.  The Swift Creek area was home to her and her family.  Miss Lillie lived on the present Lilly Atkins Road less than a mile from the church.  Her vision and generosity provided a foundation for the present Macedonia Baptist Church.

The class is made up of women in the 50's and up.

The class has a fellowship breakfast and meeting on the first Saturday of each quarter organized by one of the four teams of the class.  The class also has a prayer chain that can be initiated by anyone in need.

The class leaders are as follows:

Viola Campbell - President

 Eloise Andrews - Secretary

Marjorie Washburn  - Assistant Secretary

Betty Shaw -  Treasurer

Team leaders for 2008 are: Mary Harris (team 1), Betty Ibson (team 2), Ann Morgan (team 3) and Carolyn McConnell (team 4.)

The class supports local mission projects and provides support for church and class members as much as possible in time of need such as hospitalization or family emergency.

Some of the un-written purposes of the class include

-sharing praise and prayer concerns

-visitation to the sick or those confined to home

-a warm welcome out for new members and visitors

The last Sunday School study was the Lifeway quarterly curriculum on Proverbs, wisdom for life.  The current class study is on End Times again from a Lifeway curriculum quarterly.
